Data Security & Sync
Protect every growth profile
Every growth profile is a testament to your invested time. At StaghornPal, we follow the principle of “data ownership”—ensuring these precious moments always belong to you.
Data Storage
All StaghornPal data is stored locally with no central server. This means your photos, records, and notes are only stored on your device, so you don’t need to worry about data leaks.
iCloud Sync
Through Apple’s iCloud technology, data syncs directly via iCloud. This means no matter how many devices you have (iPhone/iPad), as long as you’re logged into the same iCloud account, StaghornPal data will automatically sync—no worries when switching phones.
What is iCloud Sync?
When an app’s data is bound to iCloud, it means the app syncs and backs up its specific user data (not the app itself) to your iCloud account, automatically staying consistent across all Apple devices under the same Apple ID, subject to iCloud storage quotas and Apple privacy rules.
Prerequisites
- You’re logged into Apple ID with iCloud enabled
- On iPhone: Settings → Apple ID at top → iCloud → Show All → Find StaghornPal, toggle sync on (same process to turn off)
Backup & Export
Full Backup (With Photos)
This is an encrypted archive containing all your text profiles and precious growth photos. We recommend storing it in your personal cloud drive or computer. This is the ultimate “insurance”—even if iCloud has issues, you can recover your entire garden with this backup.
How to:
In StaghornPal: Settings → Scroll to Data Management at the bottom → Full Backup (with photos) → Select backup storage location
🔐 Backup files are encrypted
Export Metadata
A structured spreadsheet containing only text information (species, dates, sources, etc.). Perfect for when you want to do deep data analysis in Excel or create a personal care annual report.
How to:
In StaghornPal: Settings → Scroll to Data Management at the bottom → Export Metadata (CSV) → Select storage location
Tips from Fellow Collectors
- Backup frequency: After your collection grows or you’ve done a major batch recording session, remember to manually do a “Full Backup.”
- Storage space: iCloud sync uses your Apple storage quota. If you have too many plant photos, keep an eye on whether your iCloud space is sufficient—don’t let your “digital greenhouse” stop growing due to lack of space.
💡 At StaghornPal, we provide the tools—you record the time.
